I FOUND THIS LIGHTHOUSE IN WESTERN MARYLAND ON THE WAY TO SEE MY SON. IT IS FULLY FUNCTIONAL AND AN EXACT REPLICA OF ONE FOUND AT PEGGY'S COVE, NOVA SCOTIA.
IT STANDS AT A WORSHIP CENTER OVERLOOKING FOUR LANES OF INTERSTATE TRAFFIC. HUBS PULLED OVER FOR ME TO TAKE THE PHOTO. THERE IS NO SUBSTANTIAL BODY OF WATER WITHIN 100 MILES.

Peggy's Cove! That's Canada. I wonder if this lighthouse has anything to do with the jet that went down a few years ago over Nova Scotia.

Very nice red pic !

Seems strange that there's no explanation about why it's there. Hmmm.

A beautiful lighthouse.
It's this song, I don't actually go in English. "Midst in the darkness of the night, the name of Jesus is shining like a lighthouse."
It's the song I think of every time I see a lighthouse.

Well, aren't we supposed to let our lights shine? ;)

This is a beautiful RT photo, Carletta. And to think that it is so far inland. Very cool.

EG - Their statement says: 'OUR LIGHTHOUSE WAS BUILT TO HELP GUIDE THE HEARTS OF MEN THROUGH THE STORMS OF LIFE AND TO PROCLAIM THAT JESUS CHRIST IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.'

A lighthouse in the Allegheny's I have not considered. Obviously on the Atlantic up here lighthouses abound with the rocky inlets to be avoided. The mountains in MD seem odd for this, yet illumination provided by the sweeping light is always impressive...

You answer my question : is there water then ? Overlooking the traffic, OK :-))

That's cool And even though it doesn't have water around it I love it :) Excellent photo :)

Very symbolic in many ways. Beautiful shot.

It did looked familiar. Really classic.

Yes, Carletta, there are several examples I had thought of. Some are listed above.
First I suppose is to 'Let your light shine ... "
The second is, as asked byt the Ethiopian, "Look, here is water. Why shouldn't I be baptized?" Except that there isn't any water here.
Happy RT! I really do like the barn you found. I am glad you took the picture.

This is so neat. A lighthouse is a very appropriate symbol for a church. Thank your husband for pulling over and letting you get this picture.

What a nice shot ! and I am really surprised, that's the first lighthouse I see in my life not standing at the beach to guide the ships. Maybe here it's for the airplanes ?? It looks rather bizzare !

a cool shot! it's probably guiding flying objects.:P

Great one for RT! Beautiful shot!

The setting is so serene. I have never seen a light house which was not next to the sea. Very interesting.

I thought that looked familiar! My parents were just in Peggy's Cove two weeks ago and sent me a whole slew of photos.

I like the symbolism of the lighthouse as house of worship, very "light unto the nations" stuff.

Jane said...

It could be a memorial lighthouse, I like lighthouses-nice shot of it. The light must be a decorative one and not aiding navigation since there is no water around to mark.

Thanks for sharing:)

Carletta, there is a dry lighthouse near my parents, situated on the lands belonging to a Ukranian Orthodox (I think - or maybe Greek) monastery. They have placed large paintings done in the old style, of the life of Christ, all along the walls of the tower. I will take some photos when I am there next. Likely Christmas.
