Annie's Choice is the name of the quilt pattern you see on the barn. This barn is near my hometown of Spencer, West Virginia.
I was just going to ask who Annie was :). That quilt insert makes a really eye-catching addition to the barn, I've never seen one like that before. Are they common in your area?
The barn is always a classic in red. This is even more stylish than a plain old barn with its wonderful Dutch gambrel roof. And I like the 'quilt' sign above the doors. Some things in the timeless style never go out of style! A beautiful Mountaineer barn...
Lovely RED barn, Carletta! I knew that was a quilt pattern but didn't know the wonderful name! Happy Ruby Tuesday! :)
Is it common for quilt patterns to be painted on barns in your area? Love the quaint red barn. ;-)
There are National Quilt Barn Trails in quite a few Eastern states in the US.
The above is an attempt to start a 'trail' in West Virginia.
Now here's a barn worth seeing and that should be preserved.
Hello ... it's me ... hope you still remember!
Oh boy ! Those places are always a little bit spooky in American Movies !!!!!
Nifty red barn! Thanks for the explanation about 'Annie' ;--)
Hugs and blessings,
The sign on the barn looks like those computer generated avatars - may be the owner is a blogger :)
How interesting.
Female craft combined with man's labor.
Never seen that particular pattern before.
You are clever in taking care of your history and valuable traditions.
An author wrote, "The poor have to be cleverer the average and better skilled to make beauty of Little."
It's so true.
From Felisol
Lovely bright colors in the barn quilt "avatar"; such a contrast with the peeling paint red of the barn. It all has a coziness to it.
the quilt pattern is pretty
the entire scene is beautiful
I hear there are lots of quilt barns in Indiana too. I'd LOVE to see one. This one is beautiful Carletta. Happy RT.
B.
Cool red barn.
My entries are posted here and here.
classic and I love the name of the block. :You live in an area that is very rich in cultural history. so much to learn for this blog.
Is this near where you live? I love it!
I knew where the name came from before I read your comment! This is a lovely and graceful barn, and Anne's Choice adds panache!
Great old barn! Love the quilt pattern at the top!
That's a nice barn ! Here the roofs are different.
I have already posted about Morocco on my travel blog Countries & Cities and there is more to come.
After reading all the comments above, now I know what that photo is all about, interesting post carletta.
Thanks for sharing and have a pleasant day.
Old barns are always a great catch. It is nice that this "Annie's Choice" is red, white, and blue, with the 4th of July just around the corner. Thanks for sharing.
A great barn.. and made that more interesting by the quilt pattern insert..
Tom :O)
My blogs today show Meadow Views and Butterfly's
Lovely red barn.
Looks like someone is a fan of quilting. Very nice photo. Thanks for stopping by Driller's Place.
Now THAT is a barn. Wonderful picture. I've never heard of quilt barn trails. Definitely something to google at 4:30 in the a.m. since sleep in escaping me.
Holy Moly! I'l soooo be googling this too! How jaw dropping pretty!
I love the old red barns and often wonder why they paint them red. Is this in Amish country? I seem to have read somewhere that these symbols on the barn are for good luck or something like that...
Yes, we live in Chesapeake.. it has grown. My parents lived in Virginia Beach but when my brother decided to buy a house in Chesapeake I moved here and moved them in his house too.
nice barn! especially with the design on the front. unique.
The logo right in the top middle looks like a good quilt pattern to me :)
Happy Ruby Tuesday Carletta!!
Hey Carletta, I am glad you told about the quilt. I was thinking 'Annie' would be your horse.
That is a pretty barn, the quilt pattern must be her trade mark. A friend of ours makes Texas Star quilts, they are what she is know best for.
Happy RT, you did fine today!
..
Nothing like a red barn. Looks perfect!
Neat old red barn. And I also love the quilt sign above the doors.
It all is old fashioned and wonderful, Carletta. Very peaceful.
thanks for visiting me and Midge!
Great looking barn. Happy RT!

Cool shot of the red barn. :)
Beautiful barn! I love quilt patterns!
I have such a fondness for huge red barns. Your shot is excellent!
Great shot of the red barn!
I'm glad you explained about Annie's Choice. I wonder why they put that on the barn.
Why is there a quilt pattern there? any special reason?
Love the classic red barn.
Carletta, this is great not just for RT but anytime, I have a friend that quilts and I new that Annie's choice was the pattern, as well as the Ohio Star in the sepia shot right?
What a great old barn.
Hi,
I am writing a book about the quilt trails across the country. I am working with Donna Sue Groves ( a good West VA gal), who originated the idea in Ohio.
There are barn quilts in 24 states now! I am in Iowa on a 10-day research trip (just got back from Wisconsin--great dairy barns).
Just wanted to let you know that there are a lot more than you may think--about 2000 to my knowledge.
If you know of any that I might have missed, please let me know.
Suzi
This is a neat one! Such fun.
